Screenshot Instructions
NOTE: These instruction require the use of Snagit. If you do not have Snagit installed on your system, please contact the ASD (@Home Support Desk) and we will open a ticket to get it installed on your machine for you.
- Launch Snagit from your Program Files

- Select the type of screenshot you wish to take from the top ("Region" is recommended as it will allow you to select exactly what you want a screenshot of)
- Click on the Capture button (big red circle in bottom right)
- Your mouse will now plus sign with a little hand. Move your mouse to the upper-left part of the area you wish to screenshot.
- Click the left mouse button and hold it down. Drag the mouse from the upper-left to the lower-right of the area you want a screenshot. Once you have the area covered, release the mouse button and Snagit will automatically take the screenshot (if you make a mistake, press ESC to cancel and then click on the Capture button to retry).
Now that the screenshot is captured, we need to save it in a specific format. Continue on to the next section for instructions on saving your screenshot as a PNG.
Instructions on Saving the Screenshot
You should now see your image in the Snagit console:

If no changes to the image are needed, continue with the steps below for instructions on how to save the screenshot as a PNG. If you wish to edit/alter the image (crop, resize, add an arrow, add text, etc) move to the next section.
- Click on File and then Save As (or, click on the little floppy disk icon in the upper-left).
- Select a save-to location that you will be able to remember.
- In the filename field, give your screenshot a short name detailing what the image is, plus the date. Example: onesite_20JAN10
- In the "Save as type:" field, ensure "Portable Network Graphics (*.png)" is selected
Now, create a new email and attach this screenshot to the email. Do not put the screenshot into the body of the email, please leave it as an attachment only. Send your screenshot and any other required details (typically step-by-step instruction of how you got the error are required, at a minimum) to the email address you were given.
Screenshot Editing Options
Snagit gives you the ability to edit your screenshot before saving it:

- To highlight a link, section, error, button, etc. you can use the Arrow tool to add a red arrow to your screenshot. To do this, select the Arrow tool from the Paint Options on the left and then, click and drag your mouse to position the arrow.
- To add text to your screenshot, select the Image Tool (large letter A on left).
- If your screenshot is too large, you can resize it using the "resize" link on the right side.
- Other Options: Explore around on the Snagit console, you will see that you can underline something, add a stamp, zoom in, crop the image, rotate the image, etc.
